Theatre Writing 12+ yrs Brighton Youth Centre

Theatre Writing 12+ yrs
Brighton Youth Centre
6.40 – 8.10pm

This weekly writing club is for anyone and everyone, whether you’re a daily scribbler or are completely new to writing. As long as you love stories and are interested in telling them, these workshops are for you. We will play games, respond to writing prompts, share our ideas, and experiment with new approaches to storytelling. We will be exploring writing in all its forms, from scripts and short stories to poetry and songwriting. There are as many ways to write as there are stories to tell. This will be a space for imaginations to run wild, and for ideas to take us where they want to go.

Although the sessions will be loose in structure and shaped by the ideas that we come up with, each workshop will focus on a particular aspect of storytelling (structure, dialogue, adaptation etc) and introduce new exercises to explore these themes. A typical workshop might involve:

A group mindfulness exercise followed by flow-writing (time to write whatever comes into your mind in the moment)

Engaging in communal forms of storytelling and world-building through collaborative games

Writing in response to prompts (these may be language based but they might also take the form of a song, a painting, a dream, or anything else that we might choose)

Reading our own work, or reading the work of others

Learning to give and receive supportive feedback when developing a piece of writing
